Parents in Roseville, Michigan, are on high alert after reports that an unknown man tried luring an elementary school student with candy and the promise of playtime with his grandchildren. The incident, which took place last Thursday morning near Steenland Elementary Schools and Fountain Elementary School, has community members anxious and the police on patrol. According to WWJ, the child declined the man's offer and alerted the authorities, prompting an ongoing investigation.
Police have not yet identified the suspect, described as an older white male with a long goatee, last seen wearing a red hooded jacket, jeans, and work boots, and residents, especially those residing near the major freeway I-696, fear how easily an abduction could occur and how quickly the perpetrator could disappear. "The expressway is right there, so if somebody did snatch up a little kid... it’s one straight shot and one right turn and boom, they’re gone," Johnna Drappeaux, a local parent, expressed the concern in a statement obtained by WXYZ.
This unsettling event follows another recent incident where two middle school students were approached by a suspicious man after getting off a bus near Peabody Drive and Tall Oaks Road in Bloomfield Township on Feb. 14. The children ran away and informed their parents, who then contacted authorities, which resulted in increased police surveillance and community vigilance.
