Calling all young scribes, the Round Rock Public Library has thrown the book open for entries into its annual Young Author Writing Contest. Wordsmiths between the ages of 8 and 18 are invited to submit their original microfiction stories or poems starting Friday, March 1, through to the end of the month.

Submissions can be made via the online contest entry form, set to go live on the library’s website. Participants in the contest can submit their works between March 1 through March 30, as detailed in the Round Rock Public Library's announcement.

Moreover, a range of writing workshops and events will feed the creative spirits throughout March. These include the Teen Writing Group on March 4, a Haiku Bookmark Workshop on March 7, and a Local Author event on March 16. Also, the Austin PBS KIDS Writer's Showcase will spotlight the literary efforts of Kindergarten through 5th graders.

The chase for top honors comes with tangible rewards: winners will receive Barnes and Noble gift cards valued at $30, $20, and $10 for first, second, and third place in each age category. The young authors' victory won't just be measured in dollars and cents, though. Winning entries get a spot on the library's website, and all entered pieces will be bound into a print book, securing a place in the library's local author collection for youth.

The city's support for budding writers doesn't just end with a gift card and a moment in the local literary sun, but it's a testament to the Round Rock Public Library’s commitment to fostering a vibrant community of young writers who will shape the narratives of the future.
