The City of San Marcos has named Khameyah Taylor as its new Public Safety Communications Specialist, a move aimed at bolstering the relationship between the city's safety departments and its citizens. Taylor, a fixture in the San Marcos community, comes with a resume highlighting her experience in marketing, communication strategies, and non-profit sector services, according to an announcement on the city's official website.

In her new role, which she started on February 20, Taylor will develop and implement communication strategies for the San Marcos Police, Fire, Emergency Management, and City Marshals Departments. City Manager Stephanie Reyes lauded Taylor's appointment, stating "We recognize the important role that engaging with our community and providing timely and accurate information plays in building and maintaining trust with our community," as reported by the city's announcement.

The Public Safety Communications Specialist position is part of a plan to enhance community engagement and trust through better communication. The Communications & Intergovernmental Relations Department believes that an emphasis on transparency is key to the improved rapport between the safety services and the citizens they serve.

Taylor joins the city's Communications & IGR team, which already includes three Communications Specialists. This team boasts a wide range of skills, from media relations and marketing to bilingual capabilities. Taylor's addition is anticipated to bring new outreach strategies, as Lauren Surley, the director of Communications & IGR explained, "We are always looking for innovative solutions to communications challenges, and Khameyah’s addition to the team will allow us to identify and employ new outreach strategies to ensure our efforts are effective."

As a graduate of Texas State University, Taylor earned her Bachelor of Science in Advertising and supplemented her academic achievements with certifications in digital marketing and digital analytics. Her previous roles include serving as the Senior Marketing and Communications Coordinator for the Hays County Food Bank and as a Marketing & Communications Coordinator for Latinitas, a non-profit focused on empowering young Latinas. Taylor told the announcement about her love for the community and her eagerness to contribute to its safety and transparency through this new role.
