Last night in San Rafael, a routine patrol turned into a hot pursuit when a police officer interrupted a burglary. According to a tweet from the San Rafael Police Department, the incident occurred on Golden Hinde Boulevard near Los Ranchitos Road. The officer spotted a suspect snatching a bag from a vehicle and attempted to approach when the suspect and their accomplice fled in a pickup truck.

The chase ended quickly after the suspects entered a dead-end street. One suspect fled on foot and continues to be at large, while the other, the driver of the vehicle, was arrested at the scene. Upon searching the truck, police uncovered drugs, a loaded handgun along with the bag taken from the burglarized vehicle, and additional stolen property. The driver, a convicted felon, faces multiple charges related to weapons, drugs, and theft, San Rafael Police stated.

The pickup truck bore an incorrect license plate and seemed to have been acquired under a false identity. It has been impounded for further investigation. As the search intensifies for the second suspect, San Rafael officers are following leads and working to identify the rightful owners of the other recovered items.
