It was a day of reckoning for Jamonie Alfonzoe Stevens, 28, of Santa Rosa, as he received the harshest punishment the law allows for his violent acts — the Honorable Mark Urioste doled out a sentence of nine years and eight months in state prison after a jury had found Stevens guilty of felony assault with the intent to rape, among other charges, according to the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office.
The chilling events took place back in October of 2022, when Stevens ensnared an unsuspecting Jane Doe, just trying to get home after a night out at a local eatery; she was haunted by Stevens who relentlessly stalked her across streets and dark patches, he didn't stop there, even trying to drag her away at one point, before an ultimate confrontation where Doe desperately called for help using her phone which Stevens had earlier cast aside in the encounter, the Sonoma County DA's office detailed.
During her harrowing trek, Stevens assaulted Doe by touching her inappropriately multiple times and escalated his aggression when he threw her to the ground by her neck, a nightmarish chase ensued until Doe's partner, in a desperate attempt to save her, drove his vehicle towards Stevens, scaring him off — this swift action most probably spared Doe from an unthinkable outcome, a DA representative expressed "No one should be subjected to the fear and trauma that Mr. Stevens inflicted on Ms. Doe," "Because of her courage, both in fending off the sexual assault and later in testifying at trial, Mr. Stevens will not be able to terrorize another person for some time," District Attorney Carla Rodriguez told the DA's office.
