In Santa Rosa this past Friday, a routine traffic stop turned into a gun arrest when police uncovered a loaded firearm in the possession of a vehicle's passenger. At around 9:41 pm, Santa Rosa Police officers observed a silver sedan committing traffic infractions on West 9th St and Saracen Rd, prompting them to make an enforcement stop, authorities stated.
The situation escalated when the driver attempted to distance himself from the vehicle upon stopping – he was promptly detained for the traffic violation. It was during that moment a second officer contacted the passenger, and a semi-automatic pistol and magazine were spotted on the floorboard, the Santa Rosa Police Department reported. The passenger was arrested after an investigation revealed the handgun was loaded with live rounds and had not been registered with the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Authorities have identified the passenger as G. Jimenez-Palacios, who now faces charges of carrying a concealed firearm under 25400(a)(1) PC and for having a loaded firearm not registered with the DOJ under 25850(c)(6) PC. Jimenez-Palacios was booked into jail, with the case number marked as 24-1958, local law enforcement has noted.
The arrest comes amid a focused effort by the Santa Rosa Police Department's Special Enforcement Team, which was created to take on the city's increasing gun violence and illegal possession of firearms. These dedicated officers are on the front lines, confronting a surge in cases that threaten community safety, a resolution to stand between the citizens and the violence that guns so readily dispense, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.
