Seattle residents brace for a typical Pacific Northwest week filled with overcast skies and a generous possibility of rain. According to the National Weather Service, the city greeted the early hours of February 13th with a chilly 43°F and a thick shroud of cloud cover. As the city thawed out to a sunny high near 47°F, those light northeast breezes became a more pronounced north wind, hitting speeds between 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.
Tonight, residents can expect a reprieve from the gray, with skies clearing to partly cloudy and low dipping to around 36°F. The light northeast wind will continue at approximately 7 mph. Tomorrow, there is a 20 percent chance of rain starting after 11 am, with a high once again flirting with the mid-40s. But as the day progresses, prepare for wind shifts, from the north-northeast at morning's light to an eastern push as the hours wane.
The forecast doesn't get any drier for those in the City as Wednesday night promises a 60% likelihood of rain, mainly after 5 am. While most will be tucked in bed, those out will face east winds from 7 to 9 mph, and up to a quarter of an inch of new precipitation soaking the streets. Thursday doesn't offer much respite either, with rain likely before 11 am and a high hovering again near 46°F.
And the pattern continues, with Thursday night presenting a 30 percent chance of showers before 11 pm and mostly cloudy conditions. Temperatures will bottom out at about 38°F. As residents head into the weekend, they should keep umbrellas handy, with intermittent chances of rain dotting the forecast. Highs could reach a more comfortable 52°F by Saturday, providing slight warmth amid the dampness, but don't expect the clouds to break much. For those making plans, Sunday and Washington's Birthday will likely serve a mix of rain and partial sunshine, with temperatures consistent in the low 50s.
