According to a Facebook post by the CHP - Golden Gate Division Air Operations, their helicopter with call sign H-30 arrived in concert with Vallejo Fire and Medic Ambulance to render aid to a paraglider who had found themselves in grave misfortune amidst the rugged landscape.
Earlier in the day, an almost mirrored scenario had unfolded in the same location where H-30 had airlifted a victim after Vallejo Fire made access, who was subsequently rushed to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek to treat significant injuries this incident reported by CHP Golden Gate Division Air Operations showed not only the unforeseen dangers of the sport but also the readiness and proficiency of the rescue crews facing the wilds of California's terrain and the skies.
In the second incident, the helicopter team performed a precise maneuver to dispatch a CHP Flight Officer/Paramedic to the paraglider's location, where the officer executed a hover off load for patient contact. Once stabilized, and with care marking each movement, the patient was secured into a rescue harness and winched from a precarious position on a rock outcropping, and swung aboard the hovering sanctuary of H-30.
After being freed from the grasp of the hillside, the individual was carried through the air and landed into the waiting embrace of an ambulance provided by the steadfast individuals who service by road when the sky fails. The patient's condition, while serious, was abetted by the swift response of the coordinated forces, and they have been taken to a local hospital for further treatment.
