The quaint town of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, has crowned a new ambassador of grace and goodwill – 18-year-old Sophia Motl clinched the Miss Coon Rapids title for 2024 in a glittering pageant held on January 27. Robbinsdale native Motl, couldn't hide her surprise at the win, "Yeah, I was super surprised,” she shared in an interview, “It went by so fast, and honestly, the next day we were straight into appearances and getting into the community and I was really excited to get started and keep working."
Her recent appearances include the Family Fun Day at the Coon Rapids Ice Center, which concluded the Snowflake Days events of the year. There, alongside ice skaters and revelers, Motl joined Little Miss Anoka County, Penny McGee in the festivity's finale on February 11. At another event, the spirited Snowflake Village gathering, crowds were treated to an array of activities. "We had different types of animals, face, painting, caricature pictures, balloons, and crafts and it was just really fun to interact with more youth and kind of get the message of Miss Coon Rapids out in the community more," Motl enthused as she recounted the experience.
Beyond her royal duties, Motl champions a heartening community service project targeted at young minds. Her initiative, 'Jot Your Thought', introduces elementary school children to the art of journaling – a skill that cultivates self-expression and inner exploration. "So I bring in journals and pencils and pens into local school districts and schools and I give kids journaling packets so they can not only try journaling at home but they can try it in the school and integrate it into the morning curriculum," Motl told the press.
The young beauty queen has her eyes on the prize with ambitions loftier than her current title. Her aspirations for the summer are clear – to snatch the Miss Minnesota crown, which could open further doors to educational opportunities in the form of college scholarships. With dreams as structured as the legal cases she aspires to dissect, Motl is aiming for a career in constitutional law, and perhaps, a future as the White House press secretary. Followers can keep up with her journey on Instagram and Facebook, documenting the life of a young woman invested not just in the pageantry, but in the power of outreach and education.
