Governor Greg Abbott announced a substantial boost to the Texas workforce with a $193,372 grant from the Skills Development Fund (SDF) to Northeast Texas Community College. In collaboration with the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), the grant aims to empower over 85 workers with training in robotics, forklift operations, and other essential industrial skills, according to a statement by the Governor's office.
"Texas is proud to invest in our current and future workforce as our economy continues to lead the nation," Governor Abbott said. The grant to Northeast Texas Community College, as described on the official state website, is specifically designed to underscore the robust manufacturing prowess that thrives within the soul of North Texas.

TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel highlighted the SDF's role in enhancing workforce capabilities and, simultaneously, addressing the urgent needs of local employers. "The Skills Development Fund helps support Texas’ dynamic economy with grants that boost local labor force skills," Daniel stated, noting the pivotal investment made by Northeast Texas Community College in their community's future.
In the presence of workforce and industry representatives, TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III formally presented the award earlier today at a ceremony held in Mount Pleasant, as reported by the Governor's office. With the grants that push the boundaries of local labor force skills, employers are looking forward to fostering a more skilled workforce with enhanced prospects.
The SDF grant program is an established facet of the Texan economic landscape, historically accommodating over 4,800 employers with tailored training solutions. This concerted effort has propped up or directly contributed to the creation of more than 420,000 jobs throughout the state since 1996. With Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service at its side, partnerships with public community and technical colleges have become the bedrock for ongoing economic innovation and workforce advancement in Texas.
