On an early August morning last year, a man's life was cut short in what would unravel as a grisly homicide on Houston's Martin Luther King Boulevard. Authorities have now charged three individuals in connection to the August 2023 fatal shooting which left 27-year-old Dexter Watson dead at a bus stop.
Among the accused stands 17-year-old Gavin Kemani Paul, who faces a capital murder charge in the 232nd State District Court. An image of Paul has been released along with the announcement of his arrest. Two other suspects, identified only as juveniles and 16 years old at the time of the crime, have also been implicated. Due to their age, their photos and identities remain under wraps.
According to a recent news release, HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Duncan and Detective K. Collier reported that METRO Police Department officers discovered the victim in an unresponsive state. Despite the arrival of paramedics, Watson was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy to ascertain the cause of his death awaited since the discovery of a wound consistent with either a gunshot or puncture, was underway by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The initial stages of the investigation provided neither a motive nor suspects. However, a breakthrough eventually led investigators to Paul and the two other minors. It has been reported that all three were arrested without resistance and are now facing charges for the roles in Watson's death. Full details on the subsequent proceedings or potential motives for the shooting have yet to be released.
