The hustle and grind of tax season is a little less daunting for some in Brazoria County, thanks to the United Way's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Now in its 18th year of partnership with the local United Way, the program offers a lifeline, free electronic tax filing services to those making $58,000 or less in 2023.
Last year, VITA's IRS-certified volunteers helped 235 households file their 2022 tax returns, putting a collective $289,578 back into the pockets of county residents, a news release reported. Taxpayers can access these services at a spread of locations, including the United Way of Brazoria County, the Brazoria County Dream Center, and several local churches and education centers.
Both the Houston Chronicle and The Facts highlighted this initiative, which kicked off on January 31 and runs until April 11, by appointment. Information on these sessions, including necessary documentation and eligibility requirements, can be found through the United Way of Brazoria County.
