The City of White Settlement gave a nod to its bravest at a City Council Meeting on February 6, where Mayor Young and the City Council, with City Manager Jeff James, recognized the heroic deeds of local public safety employees. The awards, presented by Police Chief Christopher Cook and Fire Department Chief Rick Sanderson, spotlighted acts of valor and service that underscore the vital role of first responders in the community.
Cheers were for Corporal Laura Gonzalez, who snagged the National Night Out Agency Award for White Settlement's impressive 19th place ranking nationwide among cities with 15,000 to 50,000 residents, this reflects the efforts put forth during the National Night Out events, intended to strengthen police-community partnerships. Next up, Officer Wesley Gregory received a Life Saving Award for his quick action in performing CPR on a 40-year-old man named Howard, who was present at the meeting to express his gratitude to Gregory and the first responders, according to the White Settlement Police Department.
The heroics extended to Officers Haley Buck and Samuel Brown, who were also bestowed with Life Saving Awards for their swift application of a tourniquet on a gunshot victim, a timely intervention that saved another precious life. In a tragic turn of events manifesting the perils of their profession, several firefighters and police officers including WEST COMM Dispatcher Katelynn Wright were recognized for their exemplary performance and collaboration during the response to a fatal crash where a pedestrian was tragically struck by a motorist in Dallas.
In a demonstration of the strength and resolve that bonds a community, Chief Cook and Chief Sanderson took a moment to remark on the courage and consistent service of these individuals that quietly, but profoundly, anchor the safety our very existence relies on. In their comments, they highlighted the often-unseen sacrifices of the public safety employees who commit to the well-being of White Settlement's residents, the White Settlement Police Department articulated a heartfelt "Great job by all!" capturing this sentiment, and so, to the men and women donning the badge, the helmet, the community extends its debt of gratitude for their unyielding service.
