A woman lies in critical condition after a late-night shooting in Long Beach, with police scrambling to piece together the events that left her wounded. The gunfire erupted on the 700 block of Chestnut Avenue, where officers, summoned at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Feb. 5, found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body, detailed a report by the Long Beach Police Department.
First responders jumped into action at the scene, where the Long Beach Fire Department took the reins to provide urgent medical care before whisking the woman to a local hospital, where she remains in critical but stable condition, an intense investigation is underway to discern motives and identify any suspects, and at this time it appears that the shooter remains at large. In the grim aftermath, a firearm was discovered, hinting at a violent altercation, however, police have yet to draw conclusions about the suspect or the driving force behind the attack.
The LBPD has not suggested the shooting was a random act and has not released any descriptions or information about a possible suspect as of now, leaving residents and the community at large to wrestle with the uncertainty that grips Chestnut Avenue.
