A woman survived a brutal stabbing this Tuesday night in Mount Clemens at the hands of a man police say she thought of as a friend. According to The Detroit News, the 37-year-old suspect was taken into custody after allegedly stabbing the 41-year-old woman multiple times during an attempted robbery.
The attack occurred around 10:40 p.m. near Jones and Park streets, close to North River Road, said deputies from the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. After being invited by the suspect to "hang out," the Clinton Township woman was confronted with his attempt to steal her bag. Initially laughing it off due to their history of friendship, she quickly found herself fighting for her life. The deputies found the suspect, who appeared to be intoxicated, shortly after he fled the scene.
As reported by FOX 2 Detroit, the victim was stabbed at least seven times but is expected to recover from her wounds. She was taken to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition. Her identity has not been released to the public.
Upon finding the suspect after the stabbing, the Macomb County Sheriff's deputies noted his high level of intoxication, according to the Macomb Daily. The man is currently awaiting his arraignment at the Macomb County Jail, as the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office reviews the case. While the suspect's name has not been released pending arraignment, the stabbing has shaken the small community, bringing serious questions about the trust between friends and the alarming actions of one man under the influence.
