Arlington neighborhoods are getting wired up as high-speed fiber construction kicks off, promising to ramp up internet speeds for homes, schools, and businesses. This digital upgrade will unfold in three main phases, with a focus on minimizing disruptions to the local turf, according to the City of Arlington, Texas.
Phase one, which preps the terrain for the upcoming tech invasion, has contractors marking territories with paint and flags to denote utilities. Residents have been told to expect door tags with a heads-up about the sprouting construction days before it begins. Working primarily in public rights-of-way like streets and sidewalks, the construction phase may impose temporary detentions of local foot traffic; from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. during Daylight Savings Time, to be precise. And while these internet-speed mercenaries pledge to fence off open holes for safety, the city cautions that private irrigation systems could be accidental casualties, though they'll be repaired by the contractors.
Closing out the process, phase three demands a return to normalcy with contractors buttoning up holes and replacing the unset dirt with fresh sod. These internet groundskeepers have a mandate from the city to leave the neighborhood’s facade as green and serene as they found it, if not more so.
