The city of Austin is nursing its collective heartache after the tragic death of SWAT officer Jorge Pastore, as articulated in an emotional recounting by his widow, Kim Pastore. The officer was shot and killed during an apparent hostage situation on November 11, in what became the first shooting death of an Austin officer in over ten years. Now, months after the incident, Kim Pastore has stepped into the public eye, determined to propel her husband's legacy forward, as reported by the Austin American-Statesman.
Kim Pastore, remaining strong in the face of unspeakable loss, hinted at the stark normality that prefaced the chilling events, recalling to the American-Statesman how the couple had spent a short while watching TV before Jorge's pager called him away to the chaos that would later unfold.
In her own testimony, "He always says, ‘See you in a bit.’ He never said goodbye, and that was just his thing," Kim revealed to KVUE, reflecting on the last moments she spent with her husband.
Across two heart-wrenching narratives, Kim Pastore painted a portrait of a man deeply devoted to his community—a "guy who is the first one in," noted for his eagerness to assist anyone in need. Her voice, imbued with both sorrow and admiration, stressed Jorge's exemplary commitment and detailed the dream that brought them from Florida to Texas. The dream culminated in Jorge achieving a hard-won place on the APD’s elite SWAT Team, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
However, tragedy is not the end of the Pastore story. The widow disclosed to the American-Statesman her spirited campaign in founding the Jorge Pastore Foundation, determined to elevate officer training and, ultimately, to establish a new training facility honoring Jorge's legacy. It is this initiative that resonates as a living tribute, ensuring Jorge is "an inspiration for people forever," with Kim aiming to further fortify the connection between law enforcement and the community, a bond her husband fervently valued.
