Botched Robbery in Pleasant Hill Ends in Tragic Gunfight, Delivery Man and Suspect DeadSource: Google Street View

A deadly shooting erupted in Pleasant Hill leaving a delivery man and a robbery suspect dead, authorities announced Wednesday. The violence unfolded when 63-year-old Peter Popovich, a local resident, was gunned down during a botched robbery attempt. According to a press release from the Pleasant Hill Police Department, a second victim, 21-year-old Trevon Davis from San Pablo, was also shot, and succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Investigators revealed that Popovich, who worked in the legal cannabis industry, was allegedly targeted for a robbery near Twinbridge Circle by Davis and at least one other suspect, while Popovich stood near his van. In a violent exchange of gunfire between the suspects and Popovich, who held a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon, both men were fatally injured. After the shooting, an unidentified suspect was seen fleeing the scene, and no arrests have been made so far.

Popovich, as confirmed by Pleasant Hill Police investigators, was in the process of delivering packaging materials to Bay Area cannabis distributors at the time of the assault. Despite being armed and holding a concealed weapon permit, the confrontation with the alleged robbers resulted in his death. His firearm was recovered at the scene, according to authorities.

Witnesses to the Tuesday altercation reported to have heard the shooting before seeing a vehicle make a quick escape from the area. While hints of the suspect vehicle have been scarce, with no information currently available, the incident remains an active investigation. Pleasant Hill Police have asked anyone with information to get in touch with their Investigations Bureau at (925) 288-4630.

The initial call to the police came in last Tuesday, with officers responding to a shooting on Twinbridge Circle near Longbrook Way. Upon arrival, both Popovich and Davis were found critically injured and were quickly transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where Davis later died. The police, as they work through the forensics and chase down leads, have urged the community to come forward with any pertinent details that might help apprehend the outstanding suspect.
