Chelsey Aprill has been tapped to lead the City of Allen's Public and Media Relations Office, taking over as the new director, officials announced Thursday. Aprill, who has been part of the team since 2014, steps into her new role after the retirement of Teresa Warren, a 23-year veteran of the position.
According to the City of Allen, Aprill has handled a range of responsibilities from managing the city's website and social media to steering public engagement and crisis communication. She's noted for producing clear content, and bringing efficiency to the department, despite, the many hats she has worn in the department.
"Chelsey's dedication to public service and expertise in community engagement make her an invaluable asset to the organization," City Manager Eric Ellwanger told the City of Allen. "Her strategic vision and proven track record will continue to enhance communication and transparency within the City of Allen."
Aprill's knack for keeping the public informed was crucial during the COVID-19 vaccine hub operation in Allen, which assisted tens of thousands. She also spearheaded the city's response after the May 6, 2023, shooting incident. To stitch the fabric of the community more tightly together, she developed the #NoPlaceLikeAllen campaign that urged residents to share their unique experiences of living in Allen, making it a diverse and inclusive place to live.
"Clear, timely, and transparent communication is one of the most important ways we grow and nurture community trust," Aprill said, as per the City of Allen. Aprill's extensive experience is complemented by her educational pursuits; she is currently working towards her Master of Public Administration at the University of Texas at Dallas and is a proud alumna of Indiana Wesleyan University with a bachelor's degree in communication arts.
