According to an official post on the CHP - Golden Gate Division Air Operations Facebook page, the incident occurred when a hiker found herself immobilized on the trail due to an undisclosed injury.

The precision of modern technology played a crucial role in the rescue operation, with GPS coordinates provided by Cal Fire Saint Helena Dispatch enabling the CHP helicopter, H-30, to locate the hiker swiftly despite the challenging terrain. The injured party was situated a significant mile and a half from the trailhead, necessitating a hoist operation for her extraction. The H-30 crew successfully airlifted the hiker, delivering her into the hands of a waiting AMR crew at the Calistoga Fairgrounds for further medical care.

Evidencing the adaptability and readiness of the CHP crew, their day was not only dedicated to this singular act of lifesaving. They had already carried out a further two hoist rescues and one medical evacuation prior to responding to the injured hiker.
