Clark County's green thumbs and eco-warriors are in for a treat with the rollout of a series of no-charge workshops on composting and sustainable living strategies. The Composter Recycler program has packed this spring with sessions aimed at teaching residents how to lighten their footprint on Mother Earth.

In an effort to turn table scraps into treasure, the program is kicking off with "Cooking with Leftovers on a Budget," set for April 3 at the Cascade Park Community Library, where thrifty citizens can learn to whip up meals that are as kind to their wallets as they are to the planet. Following suit, "Backyard Composting" takes place on April 10 via Zoom, offering participants the know-how to start their own compost pile along with the sweet deal of getting a compost bin at no extra cost, according to Clark County's website.

Additional workshops include "Worm Bin Composting" and "Lasagna Composting" over Zoom on April 17 and April 24 respectively. These show how to recycle kitchen trimmings into natural fertilizers, with attendees eligible for getting worm bins, bedding, and worms without spending a dime. "Low Waste Living" and "Green Cleaning" sessions round out the offerings on May 1 and May 8 at Waste Connections of Washington, imparting recycling expertise and eco-friendly cleaning hacks to all comers.

Want hands-on experience? The Composter Recycler program has you covered, with field training events scheduled for April 3 and May 1 at CASEE Center, and April 20 and May 18 at Heritage Farm. Though free of charge, these hands-on sessions do require participants to sign up in advance. To snag a spot, savvy savers and green living enthusiasts should head to the program's website to register, where they'll also find recordings of past workshops for those who can't make the live events.
