The U.S. is ramping up its bid to be a powerhouse in manufacturing innovation and clean energy, as industry heavyweights, scientists, and government officials recently joined forces at the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. According to details released by the laboratory, the inaugural MDF Innovation Days event was a hive of brainstorming and deal-making aimed at reinvigorating the American manufacturing sector.

Over 120 participants from different spheres, including academia, the energy department, and the private sector tackled discussions on collaborative research and supercharging the country's manufacturing innovation, not to mention participants from the laboratory's own ranks, this according to information gleaned from the ORNL website.

In what's been heralded as a long-overdue initiative, Craig Blue, ORNL’s Chief Manufacturing Officer, emphasized the importance of this conclave, saying, "Innovation Days was an outward presentation of what's been going on here in East Tennessee over the last decade and more," in an ORNL interview. Blue further noted, "To be competitive as a nation, we need to innovate fast on clean energy solutions and strengthen manufacturing supply chains."

The MDF event underscored the critical alignment between the ambitious goals of reducing environmental impact and pushing the envelope in manufacturing prowess, magnifying the government's thrust to knit public and private expertise together in what seems to be a burgeoning partnership, efforts are necessary, according to ORNL's online statements, to shore up American industry in the face of global competition and climate concerns.
