A terrifying tale of abduction unfolded when a 47-year-old woman leaped from a moving vehicle to escape her captor last Friday, a harrowing incident that has led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man on multiple felony charges.
Officers swarmed the Southeast Portland block early Friday morning, lured by the piercing screams of a woman in distress. They found her crouched in safety within the confines of a stranger's driveway. According to a Portland Police report, it all started when the suspect, a man she didn't know, offered her a ride. When she attempted to exit the car, her nightmare truly began as he sped off, trapping her inside.
The struggle took a violent turn as she fought back against her assailant, who retaliated with a punch to her face. It was at Southeast 112th Avenue and Southeast Lincoln Street that the woman saw her chance and took the daring leap from the moving car, sustaining injuries in her brave bid for freedom. She was later treated at the scene for cuts and bruises.
The assailant made a swift getaway, but not swift enough. With a description of his vehicle disseminated promptly among Portland's finest, a vigilant police officer spotted and stopped the suspect's vehicle at Northeast 82nd Avenue, and Northeast Beech Street just over an hour later. The Portland Police Sex Crimes Unit Detectives rolled out to collaborate on the ongoing investigation.
Ra Fet, the suspected perpetrator of this ordeal, now faces a slew of serious charges, including Kidnapping in the First Degree, Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, and Assault, among others. He is currently held at the Multnomah County Detention Center awaiting proceedings that will bring the full weight of the law upon him for his alleged crimes.
