In a notable push to enhance workforce capabilities, Governor Greg Abbott has unveiled a hefty $491,280 job training grant awarded to Collin College, aimed at bolstering skill sets among local workers. This infusion, funded by the Texas Workforce Commission's (TWC) Skills Development Fund (SDF), is set to benefit over 330 employees from Advanced Fixture Inc. and the Credit Union of Texas.

The grant is a response to the growing economic landscape, with businesses flocking to the Texan soil as they seek prosperity; Governor Abbott emphasized the necessity to nurture the state's talent pool. "Investing in our workforce is critical as more businesses move to Texas and our economy continues to grow," Abbott stated in an announcement obtained by the Office of the Texas Governor. "This job training grant to Collin College will help increase both the quality and quantity of skilled workers in North Texas, ensuring local employers have the talent they need to thrive," he added.

Bryan Daniel, TWC Chairman, echoed the sentiment, highlighting that the training will provide an imperative advantage to local businesses. "This SDF grant will upskill hundreds of workers and provide local Texas businesses with resources for continued success," Daniel said. The collaboration with Collin College is predicted to have a significant economic impact in the region, marking a strategic elevation in the job market's competitiveness.

TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III was on-site to present the award alongside local partners at a ceremony hosted by Collin College's Education Center in McKinney. The SDF program, since its beginnings in 1996, has been instrumental in developing Texas's workforce, training in partnership with over 4,800 employers, and supporting the generation or improvement of over 420,000 jobs across the state, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor.
