Denton ISD Launches $800K Renovation of Myers Middle School Athletics FacilitiesSource: Google Street View

Major updates are in motion for Denton Independent School District's athletic facilities, with Myers Middle School spearheading the campaign. Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation announced revealed plans to revamp their track and fields, adding cutting-edge artificial turf and a brand new storage space for their burgeoning athletics program, with a project completion date set for August 1, 2024, marking another stride in the district's $1.4 billion investment in its educational infrastructure.

The renovation works slated for Myers Middle School, located at 131 Garza Rd in Shady Shores, come with a price tag of $800,000 and include not just the turf and storage, but also a renovated track, new track and field event areas, and additional security in the form of a chain-link fence, these developments are a slice of the broader improvements Denton ISD is deploying across other campuses, notably Crownover and Rodriguez Middle Schools, and major renovations are planned for Guyer and Ryan High Schools as a part of the bond package greenlit by voters last year, The Dallas Express reported the district's intention to tackle high school renovations with targeted completion in December 2025.

This financial endeavor traces back to a bond package passed by a 62% majority of the voting populace, addressing student opportunities, growth, and safety needs, and representing the largest capital-improvement initiative ever undertaken by Denton ISD, the plans underscore the district's commitment to providing top-notch facilities for an ever-growing student body, which is anticipated to surge by 4,000 over the next five years in one of the most rapidly expanding counties in the United States.

With such robust investment in educational facilities, Denton ISD has proudly showcased a near 98% on-time graduation rate in the 2021-2022 academic year dwarfing the state's average of 90% and standing out even more starkly against Dallas ISD's struggle to get 81% of its students across the graduation stage, as reported by The Dallas Express.

Denton ISD's commitment to enhancing its educational landscape is evident, with Myers Middle School's renovation project recorded under the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, overseen by Corgan Associates, the design firm based in Dallas, Texas, and Ron Davis serving as the Registered Accessibility Specialist (RAS), who will ensure that these enhancements meet the stringent accessibility criteria set forth by the state.
