The search first centered on a pond near 14 Mile and Gratiot in Clinton Township, where the Michigan State Police's Marine Services Team led the operation, but the search proved fruitless and the investigation into the young girl's whereabouts continues. In a statement acquired by WWJ Newsradio 950, Detroit authorities mentioned having individuals of interest, though specifics about potential suspects or the nature of the leads prompting these searches were not disclosed.
Harris, described as about 5-foot-2 and weighing approximately 130 lbs., was last seen wearing a light blue jean shirt, light blue jeans, and a pink and white Rugrats coat with a fur collar. The student at J. E. Clark Preparatory Academy failed to return home from school on January 9 and was reported missing by her relatives the following day. Detroit Police Chief James White, as mentioned by WWJ Newsradio 950, expressed that investigators were maintaining hope of finding Harris safe.
