In the early hours of Thursday, a fierce blaze engulfed a one-story commercial building in Van Nuys, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters were called to the scene at 7400 N Van Nuys Blvd at around 12:32 AM, where they discovered heavy flames bellowing from the structure. They immediately switched to a defensive mode to battle the fire, the LAFD reported on its website.
Working vigorously against the stubborn flames, it took a team of 70 firefighters about 25 minutes to knock down the fire completely, as per an LAFD statement obtained by the department's alert system. Fortunately, during the high-stakes operation, there were no injuries reported.
The affected building, located in Council District 2, drew a significant response from various units, including E239, E273, E275, E287, E289, and several more as well as tactical teams such as UR88 and UR89. Nicholas Prange of the LAFD shared in a public statement that the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The quick response and successful knockdown of the structure fire demonstrate the efficiency and preparedness of the LAFD teams. Fire Station 81, located in the heart of the Valley Bureau's jurisdiction, served as the central command post for the coordination of this firefighting effort. Despite the early triumph, firefighters remained on scene, to ensure that all hot spots were fully extinguished and to commence the investigation into what sparked the blaze.
