A defunct learning institution in the Sunnyside area was scorched when a fire erupted this past Sunday, according to a report from City of Houston News. The incident, which drew a rapid response from local firefighters, sparked at approximately 3:44 p.m. on March 10 at the site located at 9220 Jutland Rd., 77033.
Miraculously, the conflagration resulted in no casualties, and the total damage was restricted to an estimated value of $25,000 yet the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the authorities, a process that commenced in the aftermath of the emergency. Flames and smoke, billowing from the windows of the abandoned building, signaled the need for an urgent clash with the inferno, which the Houston Fire Department (HFD) undertook with typical vigor and efficiency.
Determined firefighters from Stations 35, 23, 26, 46, 40, 55, and 24, contributing a total of 45 personnel, grappled with the blaze, and their swift onslaught saw them arriving within a mere five minutes at the scene forcing their way in to confront the blaze head-on and wrestle it into submission. The report noted, "Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find smoke coming from two classroom windows of a vacant school building" They then forced entry and made an offensive attack to stifle the roaring flames.
Houston Fire Department Arson investigators and HISD Police now shoulder the responsibility to unearth the spark that ignited this unfortunate episode.
