As Spring Break kicks off March 9-17, Fort Worth braces for a surge of families hitting the city's hotspots. Local schools and Texas Christian University will be out, pumping up traffic around popular destinations, so the city is getting ahead of the impending congestion.
With construction on University Drive complicating matters, the city's Transportation & Public Works Department is temporarily throwing a lifeline. By reopening all current lane closures through March 18, drivers will cruise on a six-lane operation, although with a milled, yet drivable inner lane, the City of Fort Worth reports. The Collinsworth Street closure, a recent traffic snag, has also been lifted.
Don't get caught in a bind if you're planning a trip to Dream Park. The city suggests using the north entrance of Trinity Park, steering clear from construction-related detours. And when the zoo beckons, take heed – traffic officers and zoo staff are prepped to direct visitors and the zoo opens earlier to beat the midday rush.
Gearing up for some NCAA Basketball at Dickies Arena? Take it easy and skip the I-30 hustle by exiting Montgomery Avenue, or hop on The Dash bus from downtown for a smoother journey. For fans of fluttering wings, Butterflies in the Garden at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden is best accessed via Lancaster Avenue to University Drive. Given the anticipated crunch, finding a plan B for your route is a smart move.
The city is also touting public transportation as a no-stress option for zoo and botanic garden goers. Trinity Metro's ZIPZONE service offers convenient rides, with its first zoo-bound departure at 9:15 a.m.
If you're not on a Spring Break pleasure cruise and just need to get from point A to point B, consider plotting an alternate course to avoid the influx of leisure traffic and the accompanying headaches.
