Fort Worth Trashion Fashion Show Crowns Winners for Sustainable DesignsSource: City of Fort Worth

Fashion meets environmental consciousness at Fort Worth's annual Trashion Fashion Show. Last weekend, attendees saw the classic runway transformed into a showcase of sustainability, with designs fashioned out of what one might easily dismiss as trash. The competition, known for its unique take on recycling, crowned Natalie Jaecks, Jimena Villagomez, and Louisa Hathcock as this year's winners, according to the City of Fort Worth.

Jaecks walked away with her Volunteer Valkyrie outfit, turning heads with wings composed of over 160 cans and a dress intricately assembled from upwards of 2,300 pop tabs. Villagomez's Snowdrop fused packaging foam with ribbon and thread to effortlessly create a stunning gown. Hathcock's Tacky Taki Dress was a 100% trash material marvel, stitched together from chip bags, paper packaging, and shopping bags. All three received gift cards and prize packs for their environmentally responsible creativity.

The Fort Worth community gathered to appreciate these eco-friendly stylings, with special appearances including Mayor Mattie Parker, who congratulated participants. The event was also graced by District 9 Councilmember Elizabeth Beck's presence, who took on the role of emcee. KFWB board members Rose Eichler, Fran Burns, Andrea Ordonez, and Jennifer Glass Renta served as judges for the contest.

Keep Fort Worth Beautiful, the organization behind the event, uses it to push a powerful message about sustainability. By inviting designers to repurpose waste into fashionable wearables, they set out to show that style doesn't have to be at odds with environmental responsibility. A total of 21 innovative designs hit the stage, from dresses crafted out of cereal boxes to armor made from aluminum cans, all making a statement about turning waste into resources to keep the city litter-free.
