The City of Dallas is rolling out a series of classes geared towards teaching locals how to handle emergencies with aplomb. From fire safety drills to first aid, these classes are your ticket to becoming disaster-ready without spending a dime.
Preparedness is key and the Dallas Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is ready to school you in the fine art of emergency response. According to an announcement on the city's official website, these courses will cover a gamut of crucial skills including, but not limited to, basic disaster prep, fire safety, and light search and rescue. There's even a realistic disaster simulation queued up for the final day, ensuring participants can put their new knowledge to the test. Just remember, showing up is half the battle—you've got to attend all three classes to snag that completion certificate.
Here’s the deal: the program is open to all, no ID necessary. But remember, you need to pre-register before the clock runs out. The cutoff is March 7, so mark your calendars. Detailed instructions and the schedule are stated on the city bulletin, City of Dallas.
The trio of training days kicks off bright and early at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, rolls into the next Saturday, and wraps on March 23 with a half-day session. Make your way to Dallas Fire-Rescue Training Academy at 5000 Dolphin Road. Who knows, the skills you pick up could one day be a lifesaver. And with the threat of the unforeseen always looming, a little prep work has never seemed like such a smart idea.
