Last night, Frisco commuters hit a snag as Cotton Gin Road at Dallas Parkway shut down for the night. The intersection closure, which lasted from 8 p.m. to the early hours of 5 a.m., was part of the North Texas Tollway Authority’s (NTTA) ongoing project to widen the Tollway. City officials advised motorists to expect the closure and plan their routes accordingly.
The closure, which was detailed on NTTA's website, meant that east and westbound traffic on Cotton Gin Road had to find alternate paths under the Tollway bridge. Traffic on Dallas Parkway was still flowing, but the usual left turns and u-turns at the intersection were strictly off-limits. Drivers were directed to nearby detours with signage pointing the way to Stonebrook Parkway and Main Street for those essential U-turns.
According to the information provided by NTTA, eastbound drivers on Cotton Gin Road had to veer right onto southbound Dallas Parkway, with the option to u-turn at Stonebrook Parkway and then circle back northbound to pick up their eastbound journey. Conversely, those heading westbound were shunted right onto northbound Dallas Parkway and could flip a u-turn at Main Street to rejoin the southbound lanes towards Cotton Gin Road’s westward stretch.
While northbound Dallas Parkway traffic flowed without much hassle, the restriction of its left-turn capability onto westbound Cotton Gin Road could throw a wrench into someone’s daily drive. The same went for southbound travelers, prohibited from making the typical left to head east. Still, the city had all contingencies mapped out—with Stonebrook and Main Street providing necessary detours for the turn-limited travelers, according to the City of Frisco.
