A Galveston County Sheriff's deputy faces charges of sexually abusing a child more than three decades ago, marking a stark fall from grace for a lawman expected to protect and serve. Kenneth Wayne Hogan, 57, is accused of committing aggravated sexual assault of a child in the 1990s, Sheriff Henry Trochesset announced.
Hogan was arrested on Monday and has posted bond following the charges, according to ABC13. He's presently on the sidelines, placed on administrative leave by the Sheriff's Office and, is awaiting the legal process to unfold. "At this point, it's allegations and we're going to let it run its course," Trochesset stated in a report obtained by ABC13.
The allegations brought to light by a victim who stepped forward in 2023, tell a grim story of abuse occurring between 1993 and 1997, starting when the victim was just 8 years old. Lt. Forrest Gandy of the La Marque Police Department detailed to Houston Chronicle that Hogan, then in his 20s and considered a family friend of the victim, leveraged his proximity into predatory behavior.
Hogan's role at the Galveston County Jail dates back to 2006, although his arrest casts a shadow over his nearly two-decade tenure with the department. "It's an allegation that stems back over 30 years," Sheriff Trochesset has said, "And if he's indicted, we'll go from there." Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office encourages those with any further information regarding the case to reach out to the Galveston County Sheriff's Office or the county District Attorney's Office, the Houston Chronicle reports.
