A routine traffic stop on Rhodes Road turned into a significant drug bust when Harris County deputies arrested two men found in possession of illicit substances.

During the stop, which occurred yesterday deputies pulled over a vehicle in the 21600 block, where they identified the two occupants as Victor Munoz, the driver, and Felix Acosta, the passenger. An ensuing investigation, revealed that Munoz was carrying methamphetamine and heroin. Acosta was similarly nabbed with methamphetamine, in his possession.

"Both suspects were arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance," Constable Mark Herman's Office announced in a statement. According to the release, Victor Munoz's bond was set at $5,000.00 out of the 228th District Court, and Felix Acosta's bond came in higher, at $7,500.00 from the same court. The reason behind the differing bond amounts was not immediately clear.

Drug possession charges carry serious penalties in Texas, signaling lengthy legal battles ahead for both men. Methamphetamine and heroin are both classified as highly addictive substances, the possession, distribution, or manufacture of which, Texas law treats with severe strictness. The quick actions of Constable Herman’s deputies may thus have intercepted a not insignificant flow of narcotics.
