Tragedy struck in east Harris County when a 12-year-old boy, Carlos Fernandez, was murdered while he slept in his bedroom. Officials have named 27-year-old Terry Bryan Rivera as the suspect responsible for the atrocious act. According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez's post, Rivera allegedy targeted the boy's bedroom window in Cloverleaf from the outside, taking the young life in the deadly shooting.

Rivera, an ex-boyfriend of Carlos's mother, had fathered two children with her. He was previously implicated in a string of offenses, including a guilty plea to a terroristic threat earlier this year. In a troubling past incident, after being let go from a renovation job in May of the previous year, Rivera assaulted someone with his vehicle during a money dispute, court records obtained by Click2Houston indicated. The records further reveal a history of violence, including a guilty plea for assaulting a family member a decade ago.

As the search continues for the fugitive, Rivera has been charged with capital murder. The Harris County Sheriff's Office, in their investigation, has recovered a grey pickup truck alleged to have been used by Rivera during the incident. Sheriff Gonzalez's post cautioned that Rivera should be regarded as "armed and dangerous."

Members of the community with any information pertaining to the case have been encouraged to report to the HCSO Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers, as the investigation endures. The family of Carlos Fernandez is currently preparing to lay their boy to rest on March 11.
