A woman has been charged with assaulting a police officer after a routine traffic stop in Harris County turned violent, authorities said. Anaiah Woodard, the accused, allegedly became combative during the stop on the 4500 block of Sam Houston Parkway West on March 9th.
According to a statement from Constable Mark Herman’s office, the deputy experienced “pain and discomfort” after Woodard reportedly flung open her car door, striking the officer in the torso. The altercation escalated when she purportedly tried to shove the deputy toward an active traffic lane.
A Facebook post detailed the outcome of the incident, stating, "Anaiah Woodard was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Assault on a Police Officer. Her bond was set at $5,000.00 out of the 262nd District Court."
The specifics of what led to the initial traffic stop have not been disclosed. Woodard's case awaits further process in the legal system, where she will have the opportunity to contest the charges against her. The deputy involved did not sustain any critical injuries, according to the report from Constable Herman's office.
