In Harris County, Texas, constables pulled over and cuffed a woman for allegedly driving while hammered, authorities announced on March 1. Per the Facebook post by Constable Mark Herman's Office, the traffic stop took place in the 21000 block of Mossy Field Lane on February 29, where deputies made contact with the driver, Laramie Gilbert.
Reports suggest Gilbert exhibited several indications of being liquored up behind the wheel, slurring speeches and tottering during the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests which ultimately led to her arrest. "Laramie Gilbert was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Driving While Intoxicated," detailed Constable Mark Herman in the social media release, causing concerns about roadway safety yet again in the precinct.
It was not immediately clear if Gilbert had a legal representative or if she had entered any form of plea regarding the allegations laid against her, following her lock-up. The constable's post mentioned that Gilbert's bond was set at a meager $100.00 out of County Court 11, sparking dialogue about the bond system's adequacy in such cases where public danger is at stake.
The crackdown on drunk driving in Harris County seems unrelenting as this recent arrest adds to the persistent efforts by local law enforcement to thwart the perils of impaired driving that plagues the community, not to mention the untold costs of tragedies often born from what starts as a casual drink. The consequences of Gilbert's actions will unfold in court, where the judicial system will decide her fate, and perhaps make an emblem of the non-negotiable stance against endangering lives on Texas roadways.
