A routine traffic stop on North Sam Houston Parkway escalated into an alleged assault when a driver reportedly struck a deputy and tried to push him into oncoming traffic, authorities said.
The incident, unfolding in the 4500 block of the thoroughfare yesterday, involved a deputy from Constable Mark Herman's Office who had pulled over a vehicle driven by Anaiah Woodard. During the stop, the deputy was allegedly attacked by Woodard with the vehicle's door, according to a statement released by Constable Herman's Precinct.
"Anaiah Woodard was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Assault on a Peace Officer," Constable Mark Herman clarified in the statement, Woodard's bond and court details were not immediately available following the incident.
The deputy, whose identity has not been disclosed, was conducting the traffic enforcement when Woodard became non-compliant and, in a suspect attempt to evade the situation, allegedly engaged in the assaultive behavior that led to her arrest, reported the statement from Constable Herman's office.
