Houston Empowers Women with Comprehensive Health Fair Hosted by Health Department and Council Member CastilloSource: Google Street View

Houston stands up for women's health this March. The Houston Health Department, teaming with District H City Council Member Mario Castillo, is set to host a Women’s Health Fair. The event aims to empower women by providing health information and screenings, and it's all going down this Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Denver Harbor Multi-Service Center, located at 6402 Market St.

In recognition of Women’s History Month, the fair will offer a suite of services designed specifically for women. Attendees can expect to actively learn about—and access—essential health resources. According to information released by the health department, women will be able to rapidly get information on the department's family planning services, which include contraceptives, health education, counseling, pregnancy diagnosis, as well as breast and cervical cancer screening services.

The health department is also looking to seamlessly connect families and seniors with necessary social services. Eligibility screenings for preventive health services and Medicaid benefits will be provided, making sure that those in need can more easily navigate the often complex healthcare system.

The fair is also set to cater to other health needs of the community, with information on services for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), the Diabetes Awareness & Wellness Network (DAWN) program, asthma services, and various health and dental clinics in the offering. And for those who might face language barriers, the fair's got you covered - Spanish-speaking staff will be readily available to assist. As per the department's notice, there's no need for prior registration.
