A blaze ripped through a house in the Greater Hobby Area causing an estimated $180,000 in damage, authorities said yesterday. The fire, which ignited in the 9000 block of Klondike St. on Wednesday morning, saw firefighters tackling intense flames that had engulfed the front of the residence and adjacent storage in the yard.

According to the Houston Fire Department, no injuries were reported in the incident that demanded a significant response from local fire crews. Upon arriving at the scene within seven minutes after the call, the firefighters were met with heavy fire involving storage in the yard and immediately commenced a defensive attack. Protecting the nearby exposures, they swiftly controlled the utilities.

The fire posed challenges to the firefighters, who struggled with limited egress not only on the building's exterior but also inside the house. Despite these hinderances, they managed to control the fire. After the flames were tamed, foam was applied to fully extinguish any deep-seated fire remnants.

Authorities are still probing the cause of the fire as HFD Arson investigators have been requested to determine its origin and cause. Responding to the fire were 61 personnel from various stations, including Crews from Stations 93, 23, 26, 46, 70, 29, 52, 55, 61, 58, 36, 24, and specialized units like Hazmat and Rehab 17. The financial toll inflicted by the inferno on the property stands at a steep $180,000, but the damage could have been worse if not for the prompt action of the fire department.
