Authorities have finally cuffed a man in connection with a deadly shooting that took the life of another in Houston last year. Kentrell Rhodes, 22, has been formally charged with murder following the investigative trail that stemmed from the incident at 8228 Swiss Lane back on June 13, 2022, as reported by the City of Houston News.
The late-night violence claimed the life of Edwin Hill, 37, who officers found to have been fatally wounded by gunfire. HPD Homicide Division's own Sergeant R. Watson and Detectives R. Waterwall, A. Dudley, and K. Heaverlo disclosed that first responders discovered the victim shot multiple times within his residence and Houston Fire Department paramedics could only pronounce him deceased at the scene. Originally, with no clear suspect or motive to go by, the case seemed to potentially go cold.
In the wake of the tragedy, details emerged indicating the involvement of an unknown number of suspects who forcefully entered Hill's home and ended his life, according to statements made by the investigators. Items were taken, and two vehicles—a black Jaguar F-Pace and a dark blue Mitsubishi Outlander—went missing from Hill's home following the incident.
Dogged police efforts have since managed to put a name to one of the faces behind the crime, squarely placing Rhodes in the frame for the slaying. Charged and currently in the hold of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on unrelated charges, Rhodes is slated to be extradited to Harris County to face the music for his alleged role in Hill's murder after serving his current sentence. This development arrives more than a year and a half after the incident.
