Charged with murder and multiple other felonies, Shanil Pradia, 27, faces the consequences of a violent altercation that took a woman's life outside a bar on the Southwest Freeway earlier this month. The incident, which occurred on March 10 around 1:20 a.m., resulted in the tragic death of Ruthie McNeese, 35, and left a male victim, 29, with a gunshot wound to his arm.
After an exhaustive investigation, detectives pinned the blame on Pradia, who was arrested on Wednesday by the Houston Police Department's South Gessner Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team, according to a news release. A fight inside the bar that night spilled into the parking lot, followed by the ominous echo of gunfire shortly after, which sent patrons into a scramble.
Pradia is now booked into the Harris County Jail and charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, with the prosecution unfolding in the 338th State District Court.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Cass and Detective J. Brown shared that upon arrival to the scene, officers found McNeese unresponsive, her life extinguished by a gunshot wound. They also encountered the male victim, who was swiftly transported by paramedics to an area hospital, where he received care and was listed in stable condition. According to the City of Houston news release, detectives are not currently seeking other suspects in the case.
