Houston police are piecing together the details of a deadly car wreck that occurred in the early hours of a Tuesday morning. According to the City of Houston's official news release, the crash took place at approximately 7:45 a.m. at 2700 Dunvale Road. The collision claimed the life of an unidentified male, who was launched from his spinning, overturned vehicle.
Responding to the violent impact of a black Hyundai Sonata and a white Chevrolet Express van, paramedics arrived only to pronounce the male driver of the Sonata dead at the scene. Running a red light, the Sonata slammed into the van as it navigated a left turn onto Westheimer Road. The van's occupants escaped injury, leaving the Sonata's driver as the crash's sole casualty, his identity now a task for the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences to determine.
An HPD patrol officer took note of the Hyundai barreling down Westheimer Road with a notable recklessness. Observed by the officer, the vehicle was seen blowing through not one, but at least two red signals before the fatal third ran at Westheimer at Dunvale. Despite activating emergency lights and sirens, the officer was unable to reel in the Hyundai before its collision with the van. This commentary, attributed to HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Fendia and Officer C. Sartor, hints at a dangerous chase that ended in tragedy.
The Houston police continue their investigation.
