Over a year since the tragic slaying of a man in Houston, police are doubling down in their efforts to track down a gold or tan Buick sedan, linked to the 2022 fatal shooting. The Houston Police Department has just released surveillance snaps of the vehicle in connection with the afternoon homicide of Phillip J. Rogers that went down at approximately 12:50 p.m. on March 5, 2022, along the South Sam Houston Parkway West service road. The images, which may hold the key to solving the case, are now public, with hopes that fresh eyes will bring new leads.
The ongoing investigation into the cold-blooded killing of Rogers, who was found shot dead in his truck, has seen detectives tirelessly sifting through evidence to seek out justice. Initially, no motive or suspects were identified, with a person of interest, Deonte Thomas, quickly ruled out after questioning confirmed his innocence. It seems the authorities are to finally piece together this puzzle, with the public’s help now deemed critical in locating the wanted vehicle.
It was a standard patrol response that painted the grim picture: Rogers, perched lifelessly in the driver's seat, succumbing to his wounds as the Houston Fire Department paramedics made the somber declaration of his death at the scene. A year has passed, but the Houston police, relentless in their pursuit, hold onto hope that the newly released surveillance photos may help pinpoint the whereabouts of the suspect vehicle.
The HPD Homicide Division, with Detectives K. Heaverlo and A. Dudley at the helm, are leading the charge. They are intent to not only find this elusive vehicle but also to apprehend the suspect(s) responsible for snuffing out Rogers' life. According to the City of Houston news release, detectives are encouraging anyone with information on the vehicle or anything on this case to reach out to the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600. For those wishing to remain anonymous, they can still make their voices heard and possibly help close this chapter of injustice by speaking with Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
