Houston police are investigating a fatal shooting that left 65-year-old John Davis dead after an incident on West Bellfort Avenue several months ago. Davis, who had been fighting for his life in the hospital since the December 10 shooting, was pronounced deceased on February 22, succumbing to the injuries from a gunshot wound he sustained during the attack.
According to authorities, Davis was riding in the back seat of his own vehicle, driven by a friend, when they drove past an unrelated minor accident near the 9800 block of West Bellfort. It was around this time, at approximately 6:50 p.m., when the driver heard gunshots and realized that their vehicle was under fire from a passing car. An investigation by the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division indicates that the friend of Davis was also shot in the lower leg, but managed to drive both victims to an area hospital.
Sergeant W. Dunn from the HPD Homicide Division detailed that the driver, upon checking on Davis after the shooting, found him unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Despite the medical team's efforts, Davis remained hospitalized until his recent passing. HPD released a photo of Mr. Davis and is actively conducting the investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. Witnesses have described the suspect as a black male donning a gray hoodie, who was seen in the back seat of a sedan.
