
A tragedy unfolded in Harris County when a 2-year-old girl, just shy of her second birthday, was struck and killed by a rideshare driver, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred Sunday in the 15500 block of Waverly Drive in Houston. The young victim, who was being dropped off along with her family, was hit when the driver, believing his path to be clear, advanced his vehicle without noticing the toddler positioned perilously in front of it.
The collision left the child in critical condition, prompting an urgent transport to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. As detailed in a statement by Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, family members, overcome with grief and rage, extracted the driver from his vehicle and commenced to physically assault him. The driver, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries in the confrontation, was subsequently transported to receive medical care.
