San Pedro witnessed high drama on the high seas yesterday evening when a Los Angeles County Fire Department lifeguard boat, the Baywatch, hit a stumbling block – quite literally – as it struck a rock near the LA Harbor and began to take on water. The incident unfolded near the 1000 block of S. Seaside Avenue, prompting a swift response from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) at approximately 7:40 p.m. To the relief of the concerned, no injuries were reported following the calamity, as reported by CBS News Los Angeles.

Details provided by the LAFD in their official alert stated that LAFD Fire Boats were dispatched to respond to the approximately 30- to 40-foot vessel that was besieged by the Pacific's waters, setting up pumps in a bid to dewater the laboring craft and keep it anchored in the realm of the buoyant, according to an LAFD alert. "LAFD Fire Boats responded to an approximately 30- to 40-foot vessel that is taking on water at or near the Los Angeles Harbor," detailed the alert "Crews are setting up pumps to assist with dewatering to help keep the vessel afloat," they added.
The LAFD's efforts bore fruit when firefighters later deployed aboard LAFD's boats engaged in a successful operation to eject the invading waters from the beleaguered vessel and labored to tow it to dock where the vessel's ailments could be further diagnosed and mended in the relative tranquility of solid ground. This was revealed in a follow-up LAFD alert, which confirmed, "Firefighters from LAFD Boats used pumps to eject water from the vessel and successfully keep it afloat."
