Tragedy struck a quiet Texas community as two elementary school teachers from Lamar CISD were found dead in their Richmond-area home, in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide. FOX 26 Houston reports that Marina Alba Garcia, 34, and Gene Hudgson, 34, a married couple and dedicated teachers, were discovered by Fort Bend County sheriff's deputies responding to a welfare check at their residence on Darst Field Trail.

On Monday, around 2:50 p.m., the discovery was made after deputies arrived on the scene, only to find the educators deceased. The authorities identified Hudgson as the suspect in their preliminary murder-suicide investigation, a disturbing outcome for a case that has left many unanswered questions. Sharing further details of the harrowing incident, Click2Houston noted that a firearm was used in the incident.

Lamar CISD released a statement echoing the sorrow permeating the school district and community, expressing their grief for the loss of not just colleagues, but friends.“We mourn the loss of not just colleagues but friends and educators who have touched the lives of many within our district. During this time of grief, our prayers and deepest sympathies are with their families, friends, students, and all who knew them. We are reminded of the fragility of life and the importance of coming together as a community to support one another in times of grief,” the district said in a statement obtained by Click2Houston.

Lamar CISD has set up support systems, offering counseling services and a hotline for those in need. Officials insist that anyone in need of support call the line, 832-223-HOPE (4673), or visit the district's Employee Assistance Program at 1-800-475-3327 once classes resume on Monday. “It is always difficult to share such devastating news, and the impact of this loss on our community is profound. We are a community bonded by our shared commitment to supporting and speaking life into our students and each other. During this time, I pray that we remember the strength we draw from our unity,” the district said in a statement reported by Click2Houston.
