The Lewisville Public Library, nestled at 1197 W. Main Street, is bustling with activities for the community. Kicking off the lineup is a free tax preparation service through the VITA program, offered to individuals with an income up to $64,000. Show up at the library on Thursdays from 4-6:30 p.m. or Saturdays from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. to get assistance, no registration required. The service runs through April 13. For further details on documents to bring, the library encourages checking their website. They also assist in Spanish.
On Mondays, from February 5 to April 15, AARP Tax-Aide volunteers stand ready to help with preparing basic federal income tax returns, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Not every tax scenario can be covered, for they do not assist with returns involving rental properties, or farming or business expenses; and they don't tackle state income tax returns. If you need this free assistance, you must book an appointment in the Crawford Meeting Room. Remember, appointments are limited, so act fast.
But it's not all forms and figures at this local book haven. The Adult Board Gaming session invites patrons to roll dice and play cards on Saturday, March 2, from noon to 4 p.m., with no registration needed to participate. Converts and curious newcomers alike can revel in the social pastime, seeking escape in the playful competition of tabletop gaming in the Crawford Meeting Room.
The youth aren't left out of the equation. Children ages 6 to 8 have an event tailored just for them: Elementary Explorations. Set for Thursday, March 7, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. This monthly program offers them a gateway to adventure and creativity, focusing on a unique theme each time. March features 'Cup Construction,' and those interested should scoop up a free ticket at the Youth Services Desk 30 minutes before the event.
Teens too, have a stake in the library's affairs with the Teen Advisory Group (TAG). Geared towards ages 13-18, the group meets monthly to voice their opinions on library events and book collections. The next gathering is Thursday, March 7, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the second floor at Teen Point. No sign-ups are required – just show up ready to share your ideas.
For more details on any of these events, or if the idea of curling up with a good book in quietude is more your speed, the library's doors are open Monday through Saturday, welcoming all who seek knowledge and a bit of leisure, according to the City of Lewisville, Texas.
