A man who was critically injured while crossing the street in Houston earlier this month has succumbed to his injuries, authorities said. The accident occurred on the evening of March 3 at 9600 Beechnut Street.
As reported by the Houston Police Department, the 66-year-old male pedestrian was hit by an eastbound silver Nissan Sentra as he attempted to cross the street, not using a crosswalk. The unidentified man was quickly transported to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center by the Houston Fire Department paramedics, but despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead on March 19. The driver of the Nissan also happened to be 66 and was found to not be impaired at the time of the incident, according to the police.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division's Sergeant L. Le and Officer D. Ortega are leading the ongoing investigation, as Houston's official city news site states. The driver of the Sentra cooperated with authorities at the scene and, following questioning, was released without charges.
No charges have been filed as of now, and the investigation is set to continue, as officials work to fully understand the tragic events that unfolded. The identity of the deceased is still pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
